Recommended Islands and Maps - You should soon see that you are not confined to just default island maps, but that hundreds of maps and islands (and landscape objects) exist that make the flat and barren landscapes Everon, Malden, etc., of default islands seem stale and boring. These new landscapes provide both cover and concealment for players and their enemies alike in the game. New players need to also know that there are also required addons that go with these maps. Below are those recommended maps :

1.  Kodiak Summer and Winter versions (winter requires Winter Nogojev 1.1).[Type: Nordic. Author/Date: Instructor, Dec. 2004. Required: Winter Nogojev for winter version.]
2. Kodiak2 Summer, Autumn and Winter versions. [Type: Nordic. Author/Date: Instructor, Dec. 2004. Required: Finnish Buildings pack.] Remake of above with Finnish buildings pack and includes grass objects for greater concealment.
3. Mungari's Islands. [ Type: African jungle/desert. Author/Date: Scorpion, 2004. Required: BAS Tonal (see readme). Rating: 9.5.]  Nice jungles that seem like real jungles with hidden bases, swamps and African villages. Deserts have nice oases, a base, and oil refinery. Sungo Airport if AI airport if south of main map. Contains a script for your mission folder that turns on animations of Mapfact building addons, like the radar towers. One of the best maps for jungle warfare and gameplay.

Typical required addons for Maps and Islands.  Most 'user-made' and 'third-party' and maps and islands require 'user-made' and 'third-party addons to put into the game. These are typical object addons that consist of trees, shrubs, buildings and forests used in these maps:

1. BAS Tonal. [Type: African jungle/desert. Author/Date: Ballistic Addon Studios (BAS), 2004. Mod pack] The full pack contains two maps and two opposing forces: Government (Res-sided) and Rebels (East-sided) - plus missions - for a full African civil war. Most map makers use jungle/desert buildings, shrubs and palm trees, including the night and day sounds of the jungle and desert.
2. Mapfact (for OFP) - Mapfact made the best known and most used enterable military base buildings called Bracken, and you will need Mapfact Bracken for many maps and islands. Many of Mapfact's other buildings and addons are used in other many other maps and missions. 
3. Instructor's Finnish Building pack. Adds Nordic/Finnish buildings, trees, shrubs, grasses, forests, roads, fences for Summer, Autumn and Winter.
